Accessory Model Trains, A Must Have

You might remember your first image of a model train as it went in circles around your Christmas tree or as it went around on a piece of ply wood in the basement of your house. Not much scenery but what was painted on the wood.

As your imagination takes off, you imagine trees, bushes, houses, buildings, bridges, and a slew of other accessories that can turn your run of the mill model train into a miniature replica of your favorite town or place.

For the true model train enthusiast, this project can go one for years and years, adding and changing pieces in order to bring their model train village to life.

Everyone has their favorite accessories and there are different types of layouts available. Here are some of the most the popular accessory model train.

Sound in Motion- What a train without sound. Whether it’s the clickety-clack of the train wheels, or the high pitched sound of the train whistle, there are many accessories that provide sound for your train.

Smoke- Every train needs smoke. Smoke coming from your train gives it a more realistic appearance. What’s a train without smoke? Smoke makers are an easily installed and inexpensive accessory.

Stations- Train stations give your train a place to start and to finish. You can build your entire town around your train station.

Lights- You can add lighting to your model train in the form of background or street lights. You can use them for decoration or to add light to the streets at night for a touch of realism.

Cars- Your locomotive is your main attraction, but there are many different car styles and types that you can add.

Animals and People- What’s a city without people or animals. By adding animals and people you can create a look of realism.

Scenery- Adding landscaping to your train model like trees, grass, rivers, and lakes along the tracks provides that extra touch for realism. You can also add 3-D affects, like hills, valleys, and mountains with tunnels that your train can travel through. You can also add buildings, foliage and bridges, parks, park benches, streets, bill boards, or anything you like that will make your town look real.

Depending on what you like there are many options available to you to accessory model trains.

You can even accessorize your model train after your favorite town or city. While you can find some of the accessories for your model train at your local hobby or train store, it doesn’t hurt to shop around on line. There are millions of online stores available to you with a wide selection of accessories for your model train.

It doesn’t hurt to take a picture or draw a rough draft of what you would like your model train town to look like. You can start out small and add accessories as you find them to your town. Just remember to make sure you have enough space to put all your accessories before you buy.
